Little Nemo

Monday, April 14th, 2008

One series I enjoy is Little Nemo. It originates as a comic which was made into an animated film. There’s a lot of potential for it, but unfortunately, it will probably never see new works based on it.

When it comes to video games, I grew up on Super Mario Brothers. I grew up on The Legend of Zelda. Toss in a bit of Mega Man. Then, enter the console RPGs. Breath of Fire. Final Fantasy VI. Earthbound. Chrono Trigger. Breath of Fire II through IV, and Final Fantasy VII.

On Cosplay

Over at The Anime Blog, Rachel asks, “What’s keeping you from cosplaying?

Seriously, what’s keeping more people from donning a costume and going nuts at a con? Fans of anime can be pretty die-hard; wearing t-shirts, cat ears, and carrying around merchandise like badges of honor. Why don’t they take the extra step and immerse themselves in a character?

While I’ve been to Comic-Con twice (once the year Naoko Takeuchi was there, back in the ’90s, and again in 2007), I’ve never been to an “anime” convention. Still, there are plenty of people dressed as anime (and of course American comic) characters at Comic-Con.

On Character Epsiodes

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

It’s funny how ones views can change so drastically over time by more experience with things. One year I’m excited by “character episodes”. A “character episode” here refers to an episode whose sole purpose is to showcase a character. To reveal information about that character. To parade that character around, and show what they are like. To show how the character reacts, and what’s going on in their own personal life. The main character gets so many episodes about his quest to defeat the powerful villain, or her pinings for that cute guy from class. Let’s see some time for the side-characters! And a year later, I find myself preferring not to have character episodes.

The Fansub Viewer’s Hypocritical Oath?

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

I’ve seen writings by DrmChsr0 on fansubbing VS buying DVDs before, and a recent one is titled, “Addressing hypocrisy in regards to the fansub issue“. I’m not sure there’s all the kinds of hypocracy DrmChsr0 says, but there’s also a lot more out there which wasn’t said, so it must even out somehow.
