Greg Ayres, Scott VonSchilling, and Fansub Downloads

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

While reading Scott VonSchilling’s article on Greg Ayres and the Fight Against Fansubs, something stood out to me. First, I’ll have to say, I agree with Greg Ayres’s views on fansubbing, downloading anime, etc. Read Scott’s piece, and you’ll find he agrees with Ayres, too. Up to a point. Scott writes:

Following Janggeum’s Dream to Another Series

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

I’ve been consistently posting a Janggeum’s Dream episode commentary roughly every six days since mid-January. My original plan for Janggeum’s Dream was to watch all 26 episodes, then move on to another series (Strawberry Marshmallow). However, when I reached roughly episode ten of Janggeum’s Dream, I happened upon the official Korean site for the series, and saw some screenshots from episode 26. Oh no, spoilers! I’ve read here and there about Bandai planning on a subtitles-only region one release of Gurren-Lagann in 2008, with a dub release by ADV Films in 2009. With Gonzo studio’s The Tower of DRUAGA and BLASSREITER series being released with subtitles alongside a Japanese airing (to my understanding), this is a chance for region one English DVD subtitled releases to come out at the same time as region two Japanese DVDs are released. Personally, I’d like to see full-series box sets come out soon after a series has finished airing, rather than individual DVDs.
