Seven of Seven: Episode 18 Commentary

Confession in the snow? Happy Christmas from us all!

Collage of Seven of Seven screenshots.

Nana is getting more and more serious about her studies, although it’s a shame the other Nanas have to miss out on their only Christmas.

The Nanas are as take-charge as ever. Too bad it’s Nana who ends up having to work when she has studying to do. However, it’s good to see the trio are still working on Nana’s side. They definitely don’t like Kayano, the girl getting into Nana’s school-of-choice without having to pass a test.

The trio make for a scruffy Santa/reindeer trio. Poor Hitomi, having the part-time job baton passed to her just as Mr. Maruoka arrives. Even worse is finding Mr. Maruoka actually fits into her dream guy description.

When Mr. Maruoka gets into the car with Mr. Handa to go to the party, Mr. Handa tells Mr. Maruoka of another invited guests, suggesting an omiai. Due to cultural differences beyond simple explanation, the dub refers to this as a “blind date”, which is similar, only without the commitment attached.

If it’s Christmas, Kayano comes off as the ice queen. I’m sure Kamichika has plenty of reasons for pursuing a relationship with her. Now if only Nana had Kamichika’s courage and persistence, then maybe things would go her way, after Kayano continues to turn Kamichika down.

Kamichika finally reveals all, showing how he and Nana are very much alike, at least in the same position when it comes to trying to get into Yasaka Oogi. But Nana has something Kamichika will never have: the undying support of the trio. Well, maybe that’s not a bad thing for him.

Many things happened, and much was said. Now to see if Kamichika puts anything together. Probably little will change while he focuses on Kayano.
