What can be more fun than a festival episode? A fictional festival, of course! No predictability, no commonly scene outfits, events, and traditions. Real-life festivals appearing in animation lose their interest if the characters dress the same and play the same games and see the same sights as in every other animation out there. A made-up festival is a unique festival.

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar: Episode 17 Commentary

Things have reached a point for Saga where Sugar’s closer to her than anyone else. What about when Sugar becomes a full-fledged Season Fairy? Does she return home, or remain in Mulenburg (and neighboring cities), alongside Salt, Pepper, Ginger, and Turmeric? Initially it appeared Ginger was just passing though while going from one town to another, but she’s been in Mulenburg for some time now.

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar: Episode 16 Commentary

The fairies get their first real test. I was surprised to find Pepper in first and Sugar in last on Elder’s chart, however. Does that means everyone else surpassed Sugar with their Magic Flowers? Even the troublesome Basil and Cinnamon? Maybe the growth of the plant and the appearance of buds are two separate metrics the Elder judges on. When Salt helped with Phil’s aurora experiment, Salt didn’t gain a flower bud, but perhaps the stem and leaves of the plant grew. Likewise with Pepper’s efforts to help Lancelot.

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar: Episode 14 Commentary

Watching the “Snow Flower Music Video” DVD extra (as well as in the “Sugar Promotional Video” DVD extra), I noticed it looks like Saga’s mother holding her in the prologue. This goes against my theory that Saga ran away after her mother died, but it strengthens the theory that Sugar’s mother and Saga’s mother were friends. It means perhaps Sugar’s mother created a warm snowfall to keep young Saga safe while guiding Saga’s mother to her.
