This outfit was originally designed by Tomoyo with the Fly card in mind, as that’s the card Sakura was up against when she wore it in the manga. In the anime, Tomoyo plans to have Sakura wear it for a “forest dance” in the park to film. Instead, Sakura wears it while going after Woody and Rain. This outfit appears in the chapter “A Cardcaptor is Born Part 2″, and in episode four, “Sakura’s Tiring Day”. It also appears in Tomoyo’s daydream in episode 40.

Sakura wears this in episode three, “Sakura’s Heart-Racing First Date”. I don’t understand the jester theme to the outfit, but maybe that’s just what it is: a theme. Does Tomoyo sit around thinking, “What would Sakura look like in a jester swimsuit”? Maybe she thought, “What did court jesters swim in? Oh, I have to make a jester swimsuit for Sakura to wear!” This outfit isn’t visible in Tomoyo’s van of costumes in the second episode, so it’s possible she threw an idea together quickly after learning the enemy would be water-based.
This red and blue ensemble is Tomoyo’s first outfit worn by Sakura. Tomoyo has a lot more where this came from, and each battle will surely give her inspiration for more designs. Sakura wears this costume in the second episode, “Sakura’s Wonderful Friend”. It also appears in Tomoyo’s daydream in episode 40 and in a flashback in episode 59.
While Tomoyo provides costumes for Sakura to wear when capturing Clow Cards (and other magical excursions), Sakura’s first capture takes place before Tomoyo knows about Sakura’s Cardcaptor position. Instead, Sakura sets out at night in her pajamas, wearing her rollerblades and protective gear, making for a strange outfit to wear while capturing a Clow Card.
