Cardcaptor Sakura will be released on DVD in Australia starting in September of 2012.
Originally slated for a July release, Madman will release Cardcaptor Sakura in two box sets, with five DVDs per set (which is kind of a low DVD count). These will be Japanese audio with English subtitles.
The reason for the delay was to get better masters to work from. Hopefully they get something better than Pioneer used with its washed out colors (Tomoyo is albino?) and cropping (who needs to see the tip-top of heads, right?)
My hope is that they manage to get the Japanese remasters, although I don’t know if they’d be able to see them as low a price as non-remastered material. One also has to wonder why they haven’t announced a Blu-ray release.
Even though this new release will not be region one compatible, I wonder if it won’t lower the value of region one releases. If they retain their value after this release, I might just get the Australian release and sell the Pioneer release on eBay.
